OUR 2022
3rd - 7th October 2022

Our 2022 Bronte Country Workshop is hosted at the delightful Hewenden Mill in Yorkshire. A range of luxury accommodation options are available including shared or single occupancy rooms with either shared or private facilities together with a number of luxury apartments, with the option to book for 'non-writing' participants who may wish to explore the local area.

Secluded but in no way isolated, Hewenden Mill provides an ideal base for exploring some of the North’s most beautiful and historic places including Saltaire, a UNESCO world heritage site and Haworth, home of the Bronte sisters.

This residential writing retreat is ideal for those looking to start, develop or finish a writing project with peace, quiet and time, coupled with on-site support as required.

The programme will be based on our previous, very popular and successful workshops in Southern France and will feature a set of inspirational materials and  morning prompts, which you may choose to develop throughout the afternoon too. Each day there will also be an opportunity for optional one to one feedback or ideas generation sessions, in the afternoons.  Our retreats have been enjoyed by new writers and experienced, published authors alike and a wealth of outstanding feedback has been received.

The retreat content will run from 6pm on Monday 3rd October 2022 and  will conclude with  a celebratory group meal on Thursday 6th October with departure in the morning of Friday 7th October 2022.

Prices for this residential workshop start at £295, depending on accommodation selected, at our beautiful location in Hewenden Mill, Yorkshire, United Kingdom.

All facilitation, support, accommodation and home cooked breakfast, dinner and lunch are included from Monday evening until Friday morning.

There will be the opportunity one evening to visit a local restaurant for dinner, at a reasonable additional cost and the chance to visit the Bronte Parsonage Museum if participants wish.

A non-writing partners' residential rate of £150 (including meals) is also available.

Clara Challoner Walker

After a high-flying career in banking and with IBM, including postings in the Middle East, Clara focused on her lifelong passion for writing. She published her novel A Tapestry of Vice and Virtue and launched it at The York Literature Festival in 2015. She met fellow tutor Janet Dean on the Masters’ Course in Creative Writing at York St John University where they developed the Awakening The Writer Within concept.

Clara says: "Our approach is based on a coaching style. We help people discover what's inside and how to put it on paper. Over the last few years together, we have proved that we really can get people writing.”

Janet Dean

Janet had a long career in the public sector as an Executive Director and Non-Executive Director working in London and Yorkshire. She is a qualified coach and mentor and an experienced facilitator. Janet spends most of her time writing, teaching writing and supporting other writers. She is a member of York Stanza poetry workshop, and of the York Branch of Script Yorkshire. As Janet Dean Knight, her novel The Peacemaker was published in 2019.

Janet says: "It's an understatement to say that we are very excited about the courses on offer. We are also proud to be developing a group of writers who have attended our courses. By taking part, people will be joining our growing, supportive community."
