On 4th April, we hosted our first virtual workshop as part of the Stay at Home festival, to provide an opportunity for writers to come together and create in the current environment. We followed this up with a three day virtual retreat in May. Between these two, we were delighted to welcome 105 people, from all over the world, and to hear some amazing pieces shared, during the sessions.
Our half day virtual workshops are founded on our tried and tested structure, offering the opportunity for writing, stimulated by inspiring guidance and creative prompts, followed by sharing and collective feedback if desired.
These first two of these half day workshops ran in July and August, for 37 participants and feedback has been excellent. There are two more afternoons scheduled in 2020, from 13.30 to 17.15. Every participant will receive access to all of the following materials, support and media
- Stimulating prompts, inspirations and ideas via email
- Video conferences for discussion and sharing
- A closed FaceBook community for sharing and feedback
13.30 Zoom welcome and intros
14.15 Prompt 1 by email
15.00 Prompt 2 by email
15.45 Prompt 3 by email
16.30 Zoom sharing and celebration session
Every participant may select to take part in all or a selection from the above. The tone will be constructive and supportive and there will be no pressure to share your work if you would prefer not to do so.
YOUR WORKSHOP FACILITATORS
Clara Challoner Walker
After an international career in banking and IBM, Clara refocused in 2014 on her lifelong passion for writing and shortly thereafter fulfilled her desire to set up her own business, Cosy Cottage Soap Limited. Under the Ings Press imprint, Clara published her novel 'A Tapestry of Vice and Virtue' and launched it at The York Literature Festival in 2015. She met fellow tutor Janet Dean on the Masters’ Course in Creative Writing at York St John University where they developed the Awakening The Writer Within concept.
Clara says: "Our approach is based on a coaching style. We help people discover what's inside and how to put it on paper. Over the years we have worked together, we have proved that we really can get people writing.”
Janet had a long career in the public sector as an Executive Director and Non-Executive Director working in London and Yorkshire. She is a qualified coach and mentor and an experienced facilitator. Janet spends most of her time writing, teaching writing and supporting other writers. She is a member of York Stanza poetry workshop, and of the York Branch of Script Yorkshire. As Janet Dean Knight, her novel The Peacemaker was published in 2019.
Janet says: "It's an understatement to say that we are very excited about the courses on offer. We are also proud to be developing a group of writers who have attended our courses. By taking part, people will be joining our growing, supportive community."
